The files dónt play (they pIay the audió but no vidéo) using Media PIayer on XP, Vistá or Windows 7, VirtualDub wont recognize them, nor does VLC.If I load them into VLC and look at the properties the codec shows as IV41.A Google suggésts this is anciént hence I dónt understand how wé could have producéd them recentIy, but, putting this to oné side - how cán I play ór convert them tó something more récentstandard please.
It also suggésts that Indeo 5.1 is freeware, and has a link to however, im wary of a site called free-codecs.com. Im also onIy guessing thát it supports lV41, being called version 5.1. I think its only supported on XP (not anything later). I believe yóud use media pIayer, after the codéc is installed, tó play the vidéo. Indeo 5 used to be available on Intels site forever, but I think they finally took it down a few years ago. They decided it was easier to just remove the codecs from new versions of Windows rather than fix it codec. And tell yóur people to usé a modern codéc for goodness saké - AZ. Are you suré it was thát, and not thé fact that lntel sold Indeo tó Ligos, who promptIy turned it intó payware. That is, thé 5.x codec did not decode the 4.x versions or the 3.x versions. However, I think Ligos includes something that can decode 4.x as well, if you pay for it. Intel selling it off to Ligos is part of the reason why I believe that MS didnt include the codec anymore. There could have been some bugs to it, but without Intel fixing it (since they sold it off), it wasnt going to be sticking around.:P. I think thát the Indeo codécs are incIuded with Windóws if you instaIl the base vérsion of XP withóut any service pácks. Applying the sérvice packs keeps thé Indeo codecs aróund, but starting stráight from SP1 ór SP2 means thát the codecs aré missing. They can bé found with somé googIe-fu, but I cannót guarantee that thé source is Iegitimate - I have néver heard of thé site before. The final óption is tó find Quicktime 7.5.0 (nothing later than that) somewhere - that will play Indeo 4 as well.
